Zogby Poll Says -- Kerry Wins (for today)

This morning's news from Zogby:

If the election for president of the United States were held today, Democratic challenger John Kerry would win easily, approaching the sort of lopsided electoral college victories reminiscent of the Clinton 90s and the Reagan 80s.

Gramalkin Portrait

Gramalkin stopped for a quick portrait on her way to watch the birds at the feeder.

Freya The Cat

Though her namesake was a goddess of cats, our Freya seems to be afraid of her own shadow, or at least of my shadow.

NPR : 'Brown v. Board of Education' Letters to Eisenhower -- 50 Years Ago Today

Fifty Years ago today the Supreme Court condemned separate schools for blacks and whites in America. NPR today aired a number of letters that people wrote to then President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The letters are a candid snapshot of the range of American feelings on the subject of school segregation. Taking into account the change in attitudes we have seen in the past fifty years, the letters seem especially instructive in what changes we may expect on the subject of gay marriage in the next fifty years.

Van Helsing Bites!

This is disappointing. I was hoping for better reviews from this flick. I really like the Mummy, and its sequel.

Disney Forbidding Distribution of Film That Criticizes Bush

Disney is denying its subsidiary the right to distribute Michael Moore's new film because it might endanger the tax breaks Disney receives from Florida's governer Jeb Bush. The film is critical of President George Bush and describes the relationship between the Bush family and its ties to prominent Suidi families, including the family of Osama bin Laden.

Book Review - David Drake's Northworld a guilty pleasure

Northworld was a fun read. The characters were simple, direct, and easy to understand. Drake's short discussions of how he lifted the plotlines from Norse mythology added a lot of interest.

TRON heads just wanna be loved

Other people's hobbies are a constant source of wonder for me. I recently received an email with one man's passionate description of how he made himself a uniform to look like one of the characters from the ancient Disney movie TRON. I had seen people dressed in Star Trek uniforms before, but never Tron.
